"Flat Branch" Veggie Burgers.

The best veggie burger I've ever tasted is from Flat Branch, a local restaurant in Columbia, Missouri. It was so good, I had to figure out how to make it myself. After a bit of trial and error, this is what I came up with. It's my absolute favorite veggie burger recipe of all time. Dig in...you definitely won't regret it.

Ingredients:
2 cups dirty rice
1 red pepper, diced
1 tsp minced garlic
1 cup chopped pecans
3 portobello mushroom caps, chopped
2 cups instant oats
1 package extra firm tofu, drained

Prep:
Prepare rice according to package.
Mix peppers, garlic, pecans, mushrooms and rice in an extra-large bowl.

Prepare oats.
Add tofu and oats to bowl and stir well. Mixture should be very sticky.

Form into patties (I usually come up with about 17 patties total).
Bake at 375F for approximately 20 minutes on each side until cooked throughout (but still a bit moist).

Tip:
These also freeze extremely well! Instead of cooking them, just wrap each in plastic wrap and pop them into the freezer until you're ready to cook and eat.

Serves 17 at 157 calories per serving.

  4. I ate one of these at Flat Branch brewery in Columbia and it was to die for! Your recipe calls for "dirty rice" - do you make yours homemade or do you buy a box of Zatarain's from the store?? Thanks!
