Right now, I'm in that awkward space after finishing one story and before beginning another.
The space in between.
It's tough to go from applying the finishing touches
on a full, living block of text
to sitting in front of a completely blank page,
waiting to put down fresh marks on a brand new story.
waiting to put down fresh marks on a brand new story.
It's hard to say goodbye to my last characters
and to delve into the personalities of totally new ones.
Starting a new story is like meeting a stranger.
You're still discovering how to write it, how to uncover each perfect word from the depths of the
empty pages. You don't know which tone is the right one.
You don't know these characters inside and out yet.
You might not even know how their story ends.
But at the same time, it's amazing to think of the sense of possibility.
It's a blank page.
You can fill it with greatness.
You can rectify all of your previous writing mistakes.
You can begin fresh.
Right now, I'm caught in the middle.
Half of me is still clinging to my last story, wanting to read it over and over
while the other half of me plunged straight into writing my next novel.
Most of the time, I just stare at the blinking cursor on
my word document and wait while I orient myself in this new world that I'm creating.
Just me and that little black cursor against that big white page.
The space in between.

a blank page is all sorts of scary and exciting all at the same time. you should just eat some ice cream with yoshi in the meantime!
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to write a novel but inspiration hasn't hit me yet :/
ReplyDeleteWhen I get stuck staring at a blank page I grab a journal and go for a walk. Then I write down every little thing that pops into my head.I mean, EVERY single thing! You'll notice, when you get home and sit down to read it, that you now have all sorts of inspiration. I love doing this! I hope it helps :)
ReplyDeleteI want to read your books.
ReplyDeleteSo cute and girly. Love the caption xxx

Blank pages are exciting...I love creating a world, with people that were born straight from my mind! I haven't finished my story yet...I still have a ways to go. This is the first story that I actually plan on finishing, so I'm trying to take it slow. Still...I can't wait to start a new one!
ReplyDeleteFinishing a project is always the hardest! Good luck!

ReplyDeleteThe blank page is scary.. but think of all that is to come! The next step in your journey will be a great one... just give it time and everything, comes together!
ReplyDeleteJust reading this blog post makes me want to read one of your stories and get to know those characters that you don't want to let go of...
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way after finishing reading a great book, I hesitate to start a new one because I was so attached to the characters I just finished getting to know.
You are a very talented writer, little missy!
Hopefully you give us an excerpt sometime!
