I am definitely not the girl who can eat whatever she wants without gaining weight.
In fact, I'm pretty sure I can put on a few pounds just looking at desserts.
(It's some sort of weird, osmosis-y magic business, I'm telling you.)
80(ish)% of the time, I eat like a health nut. I base my meals around fruits and veggies,
I measure my portions (I'm that weirdo who scoops her ice cream into a measuring cup...
you'd be surprised how small one serving is, though!) and I know the calorie counts
for most of the foods I eat regularly. I don't keep a food journal, I just add up
the things I eat and aim for each meal being around 300-400 calories.
(Plus some 100-200 calorie snacks; I love me some snacks.)

The other 20(ish)% of the time, I love to go out for Mexican or order pizza or get Coldstone ice cream (mmmm, Coldstone). And I thoroughly enjoy every bite of it.
When it comes to exercise, I'm one of those lucky people who genuinely loves working out.
I'm a walk-a-holic. I walk for an hour almost every day,
and I try to get in 20 minutes or more of "sweaty" exercise most days, too.
My current favorite sweaty exercise includes high intensity interval training (HIIT),
like alternating between a minute of sprinting and two minutes of jogging,
Jillian Michaels-30 day shred work out videos
and elliptical workouts.
I try to do some weight training a couple times a week, but I have to admit, I'm not nearly as good at fitting those sessions in (they're just not as fun as my beloved cardio).
I have a love/hate relationship with running.
I love the idea of being a runner, but running definitely doesn't come naturally to me.
I try to run on a regular basis, and I'm very good about it if I have a race coming up, but if there's no public display of running looming in my near future, there's no promise I won't trade
my weekly runs for some other form of cardio.
my weekly runs for some other form of cardio.
Like every girl out there, I have my share of body insecurities.
And I have days (or days that occasionally stretch into a week) when I think, "Exercise? No, thank you, I'll just sit on the couch and go swimming in this carton of ice cream instead."
But I try (try being the operative word here) not to beat myself up about it when I miss a workout
or devour an entire chimichanga at Maria's Mexican restaurant, because
A) nobody's perfect and
A) nobody's perfect and
B) chimichangas are freaking delicious.
Love this post!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand! This past couple of months have been crazy prepping for the LSAT, so my workouts have gone out the window :( And this is coming from a girl who loves to do it too! I just downloaded an app called MapMyRide. Originally, I got it for biking, but it also maps walks, runs, and a ton of other things. AND there's a nutrition section, which I'm trying out this week. (P.S. Starbursts are 20 calories a piece! I don't suggest munching on them at work.)
ReplyDeleteIf you find any secrets, make sure to share them!
Well, you look great! I am also an ice cream swimmer and that has got to just stop. I love the idea of 1 minute sprints with 2 minutes jogging. I seriously need to find more diverse work outs. How do you keep yourself going when you feel like you're going to die? Because I'm trying to train my heart and my lungs to just stop bein babies and deal with the pain but they're kind of winning at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI think we are twins. I'm the same way with pretty much everything you said.
ReplyDeleteChimichangas ARE delicious. Can't resist.
haha...love this post, it made me giggle :)
ReplyDeleteYou sound just like me...and there are times when I'm just like, bump the exercise, I need a week of whatever I wanna do time.
Still, I love exercise and it comes naturally to me too although, it didn't always.
I measure out my food too, especially when I'm not sure. Whole grains, fruits & veggies, & chicken (or turkey) are usually what's in my diet during the week. Weekends? That's when I splurge and eat whatever the heck I want to :)
i love this post! and i am really loving your blog. everything i read and all your pictures are FAB! you are becoming my new favorite blog to stalk

I agree with all of this! Only I don't measure out my food...I do go through times- especially when it is cold and/or I am stressed at work, when I just say "screw exercise" and eat horribly for a while.
ReplyDeleteI love be healthy!! xoxo :)

ReplyDeleteLove this post! I love when people share their tips and secrets! I will be doing one soon!
ReplyDeleteI just had a strikingly similar conversation with a good friend of mine the other day about this. I too watch what I eat about 80% of the time and work out on a regular basis. I'm trying to find that balance of not beating myself up when I miss a work-out (or two)! It's important for working out to feel like something you 'want' to do and not forced to do. Sometimes hard to find that! Great post.. thanks for sharing!
