How I write fiction.

What I wore: 30 days. No outfit repeats. Day 28.
Shirt & skirt, F21. Shoes, Target.

Every writer has a different writing process. This is a little bit of mine:

My favorite time to write is in the morning,
when my mind is fresh and clear and mostly uncluttered.
I like to write in coffee shops because I can watch other people come and go
but their movement is so routine it blends into the background,
becoming a comfortable presence instead of a distraction.
I work best when I have a hot mug of coffee, but I can't eat anything while I work.
Music is my favorite inspiration. I draw most of my characters' emotions
from the feelings that are evoked by certain songs.
I wrote the entirety of my first novel listening to "Haunted" by Taylor Swift and
"Paperweight" by Schuyler Fisk and Joshua Radin on repeat.
I try to edit and write simultaneously but I almost never read over a passage
I've written until I've completed the whole story.
My best story ideas come to me when I'm running -
when I push my body to its limits I think my mind likes to challenge itself as well.
I think that writing does more than just share a story;
I believe great writing has the power to change the way people think.

  14. that's so interesting you don't read over your work (or a passage) until you've completely finished. I find music my inspiration a lot too.

Loving your outfit! In desperate need of a skirt like that. might have to check out forever21 sooner than later....

  16. DAT SKIRT. It's so great. Oh lord.

As far as the writing, oh man am I so glad I'm not the only one who listens to like 2-5 songs on repeat because they fit the mood of what I'm trying to write so well.

I can't edit while writing. Simply can't. It seems to be more efficient to do it after anyway!
