Happy Easter!
Today is the first official holiday Ryan and I have celebrated all on our own.
It's a little bitter-sweet...we're bummed we can't be with all of his family,
taking up at least two full pews at Easter mass,
or finding delicious Easter baskets waiting for us at my parents' house,

but we're also excited to try out a few holiday traditions of our own.
Today, our first solo Easter lunch was a picnic in the park.
We got to use the sweet picnic basket and picnicking equipment we got at
one of our wedding showers (that was two years ago...
obviously we don't picnic as often as we should),
obviously we don't picnic as often as we should),
and I made bean and pepperjack wraps,
deviled eggs (I could easily devour dozens of these)
and French macarons!
It was my first time whipping out a batch of those cute foreign cookies
and after reading all of the terrifying complaints about
how hard it is to make a good macaron, I was completely a bit intimidated.
But I could make them in pastel colors so obviously I had to try them for Easter anyway.
Mine aren't the most technically perfect, but I think they turned out okay.
Unfortunately, we discovered we don't particularly like macarons (we'd never had them before).
Our palates are just not that refined, I suppose. Give us a big ol' hunk of chocolate
and we would have been much happier.
(Sorry, delicate French dessert lovers!)
But regardless...

Food + our tiny family + near 80 degree weather = One successful Easter picnic.
